 Spinal Care Offers Big Advantages

It is that time of the year. The kids go back to school. Much like the start of a new year, this season represents a time to get back to the basics. Strictness on bedtimes, wake-up calls and schedules often require a few weeks of adaptation to find the groove. The same applies to health. Unfortunately, spinal health and hygiene tends to take the stage during just one brief annual events when schools put kids through a basic scoliosis screening. A school nurse will take a quick look at the girls in sports bras and shirtless boys to determine if there are any scoliotic curves developing. A more thorough exam is the only true way to detect spinal abnormalities, especially when it comes to scoliosis. The findings were remarkable.

  • Doctors and PhD's in this publication concluded that asymmetries of growth, which may or may not lead to a clinical diagnosis of scoliosis, are directly linked to an increase in the tone of the sympathetic nervous system.
  • Their determination contradicted a long-standing belief that familial or genetic influences deserved blame as the sole contributors to the cause of scoliosis.
  • The authors showed that growth asymmetries were clearly present in subjects with an increased sympathetic nervous system tone.
  • Scoliotic signs were present by assessing symmetry of body structures which would also indicate nervous system dysfunction.
  • One example of those findings determined that when the scoliotic curve deviated to one side of the body, a directly connected negative outcome resulted on that same side.
  • A female would often have a much smaller breast and a male would possess less shoulder muscle and strength.
  • This evidence indicated that the deviated curves had just as much to do with the nervous system that they did with genetic o physical alterations.
  • Changes in sympathetic tone, asymmetries of tissue, and eventually scoliotic curvatures were not diagnosable.
Based on scientific evidence along with such findings in this study as these, the literature points towards the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation by a Chiropractor as one of the most important aspects in addressing and preventing scoliosis and scoliosis progression in children and adults. Understanding the development of scoliosis empowers parents with purpose when taking their children to a Chiropractor before the smaller spinal problem can into something more severe and less reversible - like scoliosis. Children going back to a school should serve as an annual reminder for families to have a spinal check-up by a Chiropractor.
