New Mothers Should Seek Chiropractic Care Post-Delivery

There are a lot of reasons why new mothers should seek chiropractic care post-delivery. Most of the time mothers who are going to seek care post-delivery have probably been under care during their pregnancy. When I help mums through their pregnancy, a lot of their attitude is they just can’t wait to have the baby. They can’t wait. You got to get this baby out of me and they think everything is going to be easier. But, both you and I know that what’s really coming down is after they deliver, caring for their infant, and changing, and breastfeeding, and lifting, and carrying the baby, everything, that’s going to put more strain on the spine for a new mum who’s already been through heck and back in the actual delivery process. The abdominal muscles have been stretched out. They’re a little weak. There’s some soreness and discomfort. Now, they’re challenged by caring for their new infant. And so, postpartum is a really important time for mums to get care because it helps them get the body back to the way that it was and in the proper alignment.
One of the other really important factors that we talk about postpartum is that there is still that hormone relaxin coursing through their bodies. If they’ve had a difficult pregnancy, they have misalignment's, or they have a history of scoliosis, those can be addressed while we have that hormone relaxin coursing through their bodies because it makes the adjustments go in easier and have a more lasting and profound effect. So, if a mother is known to have scoliosis, there’s this window that opens for about, I don’t know, another six to eight weeks after they deliver that we can actually have a profound effect on spinal alignment and induce spinal change better than we can do at any other time other than when they’re infants and children because the younger people get adjusted, the quicker the body adapts. And, we all know that the younger a person is, the faster the healing, and as we go over time, the body slows down in its ability to heal.
Maintaining proper alignment, giving the nervous system the best chance to battle back these stresses and strains that come with caring for the new infant. That’s why it’s so important postpartum. And, the better the mums feel and the healthier they are, the less likely they’re going to have the anxiety and things that lead up to postpartum depression. So, it’s really about keeping the mum centered, keeping her healthy and just making sure that her spine and nervous system stay healthy; and minimise any pain or discomfort while they’re caring for their new child and pretty much going forward because chiropractic can help keep your spine and nervous system healthy throughout the course of a lifetime, not just when you’re going through certain stresses or certain time periods of life. And, when applied like that, it always leads to the best outcome. The healthiest potential in every individual always comes out when the nervous system is working as well as possible.
